4ROOM
A forum of the mind.
The 4ROOM series by Rabatho Laka is a core body of work exploring the dynamic interplay between ambition and environment within the context of South African township life. The project uses large-scale digital illustration to create a compelling visual narrative where four colossal characters—the “Giants”—exist in harmonious disproportion to their small, highly detailed 4-room homes.
Concept:
Each of the four pieces is a 4-part conversation that visually addresses the universal human experience of having dreams bigger than one’s current reality. The “Giant” figures embody expansive visions, big personalities, and an aspirational outlook. Their homes, drawn from real townships, serve as grounding, familiar backdrops—symbols of the unique roots that nurture such large perspectives. 4ROOM argues that the greatest limit is not physical space, but mental constraint. This internal, limitless space is the “forum of the mind.
